Cool! Could you try copying the .31 MP3 plugin to the .32 tree and see if
VBR works? (only playback will work, seeking will most likely crash)

I apologize for not replying quickly but I've been swamped by email (my
ALSA mailbox is reaching 600 messages..aaargh, but don't let that stop you
from sending alsaplayer mail!)

See my earlier mail. You can move the length calculation and frame
position calculations to the MP3 plugin very easily.
