Greetings. It just so happens that some time ago I developed a system
for doing legal transcription using alsaplayer. I also experimented with
using various controls, including foot pedals. The footpedals I used
were part of a USB gaming control for driving games that had a steering
wheel and pedals for gas and brake. ;-) Ultimately, I ended up
preferring mapping F-keys in the editor to alsaplayer control. That is,
F2=play, F3=stop, F4=reverse, F5=pause, etc. I also tried one of those
Griffin Power knobs. However, you can use whatever suits you.

The system is written in Python, and uses the alsaplayer Python
interface (apcontrol).
