Hello!
First, I'd like to thank you for bringing out a new release and
maintaining it. I've always considered Alsaplayer to be one of the
better audio players for Linux.
All those new and shiny players with integrated media libraries
(aka. iTune-clones) are way too bloated and depend on dozens of
libraries. Alsaplayer is more in the traditional Unix spirit of
keeping it small and doing just the thing it was intended for.
My problem with the current release (0.99.77): I have lots of
recordings [from radio] in vorbis format. They tend to be rather long
(8+ hours in one file). I discovered that files longer than
approximately 12170 seconds trigger an overflow somewhere in the
frames-time conversion process. The time display gets negative and
there is an error message on the console "Huh, negative????"
(apparently from CorePlayer::GetCurrentTime() in CorePlayer.cpp).
Playback and seeking via the GUI slider is not affected. I haven't
yet tested absolute seeking via CLI.
Apart from that (did I already mention it is a great program? ;-) ) I
would be glad if the following things could be implemented (in the
new gtk2-GUI, of course):
* keyboard control for the GUI (foremost for seeking +/- 5 seconds
[left/right arrows?] AND for +/- 1 second [maybe Shift-left/right?])
* Sort algorithms for the playlist (by filename, by
modification/creation time of the file, by length, by various metatags)
* Time display switchable to "HH:MM:SS" or "MMM:SS" [each current,
remaining, total per track] (for example "01:30:00" or
"090:00")
And for some day in the future:
* Support for reading (maybe writing) CUE-files [skipping to time indices
inside currently playing track which are taken from the corresponding
CUE-file]
I'd contribute if my C/C++ skills were not that limited... :-(
Many thanks & regards,
Simon
