Hi all,
It was some time ago, I applied to become a new admin for the alsaplayer
project.
I was not having time until now.
I am not a programmer but I am learning cvs and I can apply patches.
Why I want to try to get the alsaplayer on the move again?
Because I like the alsaplayer.
It is simple, it do the job and it is the only audio player I know that have not
only a speed control, but such a control with a simple API that can be
controlled with exact values from a console or a popup menu (like in a fvwm
button).
I am also sorry for my bad English.
The actual state of the cvs is bad:
Hubert Chan committed some Debian security patches and they have never been
committed into the cvs. see
http://lists.tartarus.org/pipermail/alsaplayer-devel/2006-May/001891.html
Another big problem is at the compilation from the cvs fail when compiling the
gtk2 interface. see
http://lists.tartarus.org/pipermail/alsaplayer-devel/2005-February/001854.html
Another bug is at 'configure --disable-gtk2' don't seem to work because I get
the same error even with that flag. So maybe at a simple temporary fix will be
to patch the Makefiles and/or the configure script.
If nobody come with a solution for this error within a few days, I will just
reverse the last changes on the cvs so at it will at least compile.
After that, I will apply the Debian patches and make a bugfix release.
I have 2 questions if someone is listening:
1) What is best? to just reverse the changes (see
http://sourceforge.net/mailarchive/forum.php?forum_id=33226&max_rows=25&style=ultimate&viewmonth=200501)
and apply the patches, or to make 2 patched branches, one with the actual
(broken) state of the cvs and the another one with reversing the changes before
applying the Debian patches?
2) What is best for a new release? to apply the patches at the date before the
changes that broke the compilation before making the tarball, or to just patch
the last existing release?
In the meantime, I will continue to learn cvs, and without any answer, I will do
what I think is best. But don't come too late and complain at you don't like
it. If you want to discuss it, just do it now.
Regards to every one!
Ciao,
Dominique
