The mpeg4 format have this possibility. Another problem is at I
don't know how formats as wavpack or ape will react if someone try to made a
file from different audio files using different sampling frequencies, bits per
sample or number of channels. 

In this case, will wavpack (or ape) just encode the file and change those
parameters between 2 songs or will it refuse to work?
