I must confess I have been lurking on this list for rather longer than I
remember, but have possibly never posted anything. The list doesn't appear
to have been very active for some time now.

I am known as Footleg in caving circles, I have done very little surveying
but have been intending to try and get some of the younger members of my
club (ULSA) involved in some surveying activities for a while now. If I was
to try and get some club survey instruments then what would people
recommend? What are the main pitfalls waiting to trip up an inexperienced
surveyor?
