This is just a reminder that the deadline for nominations-in-advance for
the BCRA's Arthur Butcher Award for Cave Surveying is 1st September.
That deadline does not - of course - prevent you from displaying your
work at the caving conference and having it judged that way. But if you
will not be present at the conference, you need to send in a nomination
THIS WEEK.
---------------------------
Previous notice reads as follows...
Each year, BCRA presents an award for, broadly speaking, "excellence in
cave surveying". As well as a cash prize, there is a trophy to be kept
by the winner for a year. The Arthur Butcher Award is judged and
announced at the National Caving Conference.
This year, Hidden Earth 2001 will be held at the Buxton Community
School, College Road, Buxton, Derbyshire over the weekend of 12-14th
October. For more information, see http://www.hidden-earth.org.uk/
To be considered for the Arthur Butcher Award, individuals or caving
clubs must do something to bring their work to the attention of the
judges. For a cave survey, you can easily do this by displaying it on
your club stand at the conference - or you can create a poster
describing your work. If, however, you want other work to be considered
- such as a report or publication on a surveying topic, or other more
general achievements - then you will need to make a 'nomination' in
advance of the conference for the judges to consider.
The deadline for advance nominations is 1st September. There is no
'formal' nomination form, but you can get the relevant information from
<http://www.hidden-earth.org.uk/rules.arthurbutcher.html> or by post
from David Gibson (Competitions Secretary), 12 Well House Drive, LEEDS,
LS8 4BX. The info also appeared in Caves & Caving 87, p50 (Spring/Summer
2000).
Nominations for the award should be made in confidence to the Conference
Manager, Paul Mann, c/o Jandco, Diglis Basin, Diglis Road, WORCESTER,
WR5 3DD. <mailto:manager@hidden-earth.org.uk>. Do NOT send them to David
Gibson.
