In the Portuguese stemming documentation, it states:

The following letters are vowels:
á   é   í   ó   ú   â   ê   ô

However, the algorithm says this:

define v 'aeiou{a'}{e'}{i'}{o'}{u'}{a^}{e^}{o^}'

I assume at "aeiou" just needs to be added to the document, such as this:

The following letters are vowels:
a e i o u á   é   í   ó   ú   â   ê   ô
