Log message:
Started hacking on this again (after ages) ... on a version that
wasn't up to date. Oops. However, have changed my mind about some
things (as per where my ideas in the notes were going, as it happens),
so we don't really lose.

Should now be able to build stuff. It certainly seems to be able to
build Zap (yay), which is good.
