Since we seem to have an uninitialised value in the weight calculations,
it's hardly suprising that you can get different search results for the
same query.

I suggest we focus on tracking down the cause of that first, since
trying to benchmark a process with some random inputs isn't going to
get us reliable conclusions.  Also, at least some of the odd performance
issues are probably caused by that problem.
